Passover blessings under lockdown. Impressive social distancing by some among the ancient Hasidic Orthodox Jewish community.
Founded in Eastern Europe, the movement centred on today’s Western Ukraine and followed the teachings of the 18th century mystic and healer, known as the Baal Shem Tov, or the BeShT. Survivors of the Holocaust and others regrouped in Britain after 1945, building a large community in North London, following a very strict way of life, led by ancient regulations.
Because of the Corona Virus pandemic and the lockdown by the British authorities, this spring many gardens and sheds were turned into ad hoc synagogues.
Perhaps an example to follow by other faiths? Especially in the Holly Week of the Orthodox Church.
