White Russians in Bulgaria
The Bolshevik Revolution and Russia's Civil War forced into exile whole generations. Hundreds of thousands of refugees managed to reach Bulgaria and Serbia through the Black Sea ports of southern Russia and Ukraine before their escape routes were cut off by the advancing Red Army.
In late 1921, in a few days only, 9330 Russian émigrés - military personnel with their families and other civilians - disembarked from 4 ships in the Bulgarian ports of Varna and Burgas.
Few visual memories from those generations have survived, mainly outside Russia and Ukraine.
A film in development. Following the lives of White Russians and their heirs today.
Shot on location in Russia, Bulgaria and Belgium.
